South Carolina Plantation’s Slave Cabin From The 17th Century Is Deconstructed and Shipped North To The Smithsonian

One of the last remaining slave cabins from a 17th century South Carolina plantation has been deconstructed and it is now journeying north to the Smithsonian, where it will go on display.

Once one of about two dozen on slave row at Point of Pines Plantation on Edisto Island, the one-room cabin will be reconstructed at the National Museum of African American History and Culture when it opens on Washington’s National Mall in two years. The cabin is one of only two remaining from the plantation and the only one in its original location.
