Quebec’s Earliest Settlers Left Strongest Genetic Imprint on Province

The first settlers to colonize the wilderness of northeastern Quebec had more offspring and were more successful in passing on their genes than those who followed, according to a genealogical research published Thursday in the journal Science.

The study, conducted by Canadian and Swiss researchers, looked at the genealogy of more than 1.2 million Canadians in the recently colonized Quebec regions of Charlevoix and Saguenay-Lac St. Jean.

Does anyone know about either Swiss that colonized Nouvelle France in the early 1600’s or their descendants that might have gone back perhaps during the Great Expulsion? I also know about the Protestant that went to Nova Scotia either from Montbeliard and Switzerland. I know that those in Nova Scotia carry our DNA from those relatives of mine. But I also have DNA of the original French settlers in Canada from all over France from their families that stayed in France. The LeBlanc family of Martaize Loudon France, others from Brittany, some from Doubs such as the Gauthier family, from the Marne, from Avignon and Tarn and from the North East of France. This tells me that someone left Acadia and or Quebec and married into one of my families. This most likely in the 1770’s. I have 3 candidates but since the records of Bonfol Switzerland only go back to 1720 and are sparse before 1790, I a at a loss. I do have a cousin who also has a match with someone with early Canadian French settlers. The Chapuis, Pelletier and Saulnier families are the most probable families from my research. If anyone has a clue and knowledge please get in touch with me.
