My 2 x great grandparents are buried in the church cemetery and I am very upset about this pending sale. How could the church consider this. Why not start up a new church and make the services more exciting so that they will attract more people. Or turn the historic Church and grave yard into a Cafe.
This is atypical of today. The ALMIGHTY BUCK is much more important than RESPECT for ones elders.
Even if they are ancestors of those who are no longer living in the area. How easy it is to just pluck the stones and haul them away to some unknown
place. The earth is then scoured off down to below where the remains might have been discovered. Most construction outfits just ignore if any bones are sighted. DO NOT WISH TO HOLD UP CONSTRUCTION. Then are hauled away to the nearest DUMP and are buried under 100 or more feet of TRASH AND DEBRIS. How wonderful a resting place, as MEMORIAL FOR THOSE WHO CAME BEFORE. Most stones get tossed down by the river's edge and or the ocean to be used to
hold back the stormy seas. Used as breakwater. This will not be the first nor the last cemetery that this happens. See web site, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com and check for Cemeteries. Tis extremely SAD. I wonder just how many other instances of this same thing has occurred in the recent past. If the souls of those departed wish to "haunt" the new residents or this dwelling, or cafe, or whatever goes over their graves, I TRUST THAT THEY WILL DO AS MUCH MISCHIEF AS POSSIBLE in return.
