Kudos to the persons that undertook this massive project. As a board member and volunteer at Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY that was established in 1852, I understand the importance of what you've done. We have discovered that many of the older burials were not marked properly or the markers have become buried over the years, so we are in the midst of recovering those markers, and ultimately in some cases, the names of those buried there. Everyone has a story, and they are all important. We have many well known persons at Oakwood, including Annie Edson Taylor, first person to go over the Falls and survive, but we feel that every person deserves to be recognized, famous or not. Cemeteries are historical archives and should be protected and preserved for the future. Please consider doing volunteer work for your local historic cemetery. It's important work.
It would be nice to see this happen in other locations as well!
