Pop superstar Beyonce Knowles is a cousin of classical music genius Gustav Mahler. The family tie was revealed in a recent book about the composer by Norman Lebrecht.

Mahler, whose music fell into obscurity after his death, has recently been remarked as more important than Beethoven. A number of Mahler's close family moved to the US where one of his family members became linked to Beyonce's family who are from African-American and French creole descent.
