World War Two Pilot To Be Buried with Military Honours 68 Years After He Went Missing Over the South Pacific
A Massachusetts pilot will receive a funeral with full military honours this weekend - 68 years after his plane went missing over the South Pacific during World War Two. U.S. Army Air Force Second Lieutenant Martin Murray, then 21, disappeared without trace on October 27, 1943 along with 11 crew after the B-24D Liberator failed to land on the island of New Guinea.The wreckage could never be found - until a villager on the remote island stumbled across what looked like an old crash site deep in the jungle, six decades later. It took military experts eight years to recover the wreck and then positively identify some of the human remains, using dental records and DNA evidence.
