Secret Footage Unearthed Of American Troops Practising D-Day Landings At Devon, England
Secret footage of U.S. soldiers training alongside British troops for D-Day in South-West England have been unearthed from a dusty archive and seen for the first time in 65 years.
The 38 reels - lasting ten minutes each - show a variety of images including tanks rolling across beaches and soldiers wading through waves. In another sequence, troops are lined up in make-shift landing barges.
Wartime leaders Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower are also seen inspecting troops and remarkably there is footage of Russian military staff observing the manoeuvres.

Yes of course. We know about this here in England (although many of us have not seen the so-called "secret footage" yet on the internet). In fact, a village called 'Tyneham' near the Dorset coast was used for practise by the M.O.D. (evacuated beforehand of course) and the remains of it can still be found (well, about forty years ago they were still there anyway). I don't know what happened to the people afterwards but it was/is an important historical site. Thank God Hitler was defeated, and it shows what the civilians had to sacrifice throughout Europe and beyond.
The practise was common knowledge, what information seems to be missing, is that over 700 military personel died on Slapton Sands during this exercise, I am unclear as to the cause, but German e-boats seem to be part of the story. I have also heard that some, if not all of the residents of Tyneham did return to the village, whether or not they remained, I have no idea.
I agree entirely with gruyere2's comment re Hitler's defeat, although I think if he had attempted to invade, some very nasty surprises would have come his way!
This was the subject of a BBC program and there is a piece on it at http://www.militaryphotos.net/forum... which confirms the u-boat theory
