Message to Family Tree Maker 2008 Owners
Message from the Family Tree Maker Team to Family Tree Maker 2008 owners:
As we announced in an email to you earlier, we’re giving our loyal Family Tree Maker 2008 customers a free upgrade to 2009. Last year around this time we released Family Tree Maker 2008. There was some initial customer dissatisfaction with the functionality in that release. We heard from customers who felt they didn’t receive what they were expecting. Over the past year, we’ve listened carefully to their feedback and have added many new features in the form of free patches which have been enthusiastically received. Family Tree Maker 2009 has even more features and functions that were not in previous patches.
In the next few weeks, Family Tree Maker 2008 registrants will receive an email with a one-time-use coupon that can be redeemed for a free version of Family Tree Maker 2009. We want you to be completely satisfied and delighted with the product you have purchased. The family history work you do is important, and we want to support you the best we can.
Sincerely,
The Family Tree Maker Team

Hi GeneaNet Team
Many thanks, will look forward to looking at Family Tree Maker 2009.

What about people like me - on FTM 2005 and can't afford 2009. It is now behaving in a peculiar manner - whole families suddenly disappear, or there are gaps and I find it somewhere else. I am an experienced user and 'backup' all the time to protect my info. Can you advise, is it about to collapse on me and should this happen with a prog only 3 years old ?
@Kathryn: Many thanks for your message!
@Roz: I can only suggest that you contact Family Tree Maker at http://www.familytreemaker.com/Supp...
Hope to hear from Family Tree Maker soon about the upgrade, it sounds very good. Looking forward to receiving it.
I have been using FTM 2008 for 5 months or so now and really like how it works, but 2009 sounds even better, can't wait.
I have FTM 2005, can I upgrade to 2009 without loosing any data ?
I have Family Tree Maker Version 16, do I qualify for an upgrade to the 2009?
@Pat: I can only suggest that you contact Family Tree Maker at http://www.familytreemaker.com/Supp...
Well it has got to be an improvement on 2008, I brought at the beta stage and went through horrendious data loss and malfunction -and changed to AQ12 because of it - If it is working now lets hope they have pre ship tested it far beyond their ftm2008 pre test practice..
several of its 'bits were excellent, shame about all the bugs they left in it when they shipped, as they say ship in haste, .... and loose your clients! or was it simply marketing over rulling the software writiers?
I await my email....
I am considering changing to FTM 2009, I now have 2005. I would like to know if there is a place I could preview how the program works before I purchase it and move all my family into it. I want them to be happy with the change and I don't want to lose them. Also when install the new program will it atuo. except all the info I have in my 2005 program? Thanks BJ

Have purchsed 2008 version and have been unable to register it. How do I do that.
So far I am not sure that I like it better than my old version. Not enough rooom to type in names.
I suggest you try out "The Master Genealogist" (TMG) instead of waiting for FTM 2009 to work/or not work. TMG will do a direct import of your FTM file with no data loss. They have unlimited space in all fields and their reports are fabulous. You can include all photos you have attached to any person. and they look so much more "professional" that you love to share them with family! I have been using it since 2002 and I had started out with FTM and would never go back to using FTM again. Go to the Whollygenes website link and try it out for free for 30 days. They also have a free "guided tour" on their website so you can see how it works. I do not work for Whollygenes, I am just a very happy customer of theirs! http://www.whollygenes.com/
Still using FTM v2.0 from 1995!!
Installed originally from 2 floppies onto XP and is a lot less complicated than the newer versions which for me went wrong too many times. it's a pleasure to use with a interface that is plain and simple, no silly web search integrations - it just works!
Not everyone will agree with me but sometimes and for some people newer is not always better!
I have my family on Ancestory tree. Is there any way to send it to FTM without a lot of typing or copy and paste? Thanks for any help Nils
I was a beta tester for FTM 2008, after which I received the installation CD for 2008, but due to the problems with beta have never installed final 2008. Have stayed with FTM V 16. Could I register 2008 and still receive 2009 to try it and see if it has improved?
Thanks, Larry
