Duncan Roots is now On-Line

A new, complete resource center for researching the ancestors of Duncan families, is now on the Internet.
Duncan Roots represents a coalition of information that can be accessed through a central location, called an on-line community. These types of communities have been servicing people on the Internet for many years and this is the first true effort to bring it all together for one surname.

Genealogists will be able to communicate with others and share information with use of a dedicated forum and message board, research links to other web sites and communities, various mailing lists and chatrooms. What makes this community different from others is the fact that it is dedicated solely to researchers of the surname Duncan. There will be no need to filter through thousands of other surnames until you come across your own or deal with slow web sites that are visited by hundreds of other general researchers at one time. There are many other web sites and communities that offer similar information but never all in one place at one time.

Researchers can go to the forum and post information about the ancestor they are looking for and browse the many posts for additional information to add to their own. The forum board comes complete with search options, latest postings, and many other options, broken down into easy to find categories. There is even an option for members to post their own photo so others finally see what their fellow researchers look like. This is great place to share ideas and meet new friends that you can actually call cousins.

The research links are a great place to post your web site with information about Duncan research or genealogy in general. The links are broken down into miscellaneous web sites, clans and clubs, mailing lists, records, references and research centers. Use the search option to find what you are looking for or just browse the many Duncan related links. And best of all, don’t worry about sorting through thousands of unrelated links just to find what you are looking for.

You can also sign up for a free homepage at Duncan Roots and post your information for others to read. These web sites will not contain any ad banners and are absolutely free. Get up to 10 MB or more to use for listing your family tree or research records and finally tell your family where to find you on the web. DuncanRoots will have many other options coming soon and the content will be updated regularly.

If you would like to help in the effort to bring Duncan research into one central location, visit duncanroots at http://www.duncanroots.com and use the information that is available. If you’d like to activley participate in developing DuncanRoots and serving on the staff, contact DuncanRoots at staff@duncanroots.com.

The claim that this is the only site dedicated to a single surname is a bit wide of the mark!

Numerous other sites have the same sort of thing for specific surnames, with message boards and chat etc. An example is the group of "Surname Resource Centers" supported by surnameweb.org.

However, DuncanRoots looks like a very good site.
