New Publication Helps you Trace your Irish Roots

Genealogist Brian Mitchell, based at the Genealogy Centre in Co. Derry, has recently published a work entitled Genealogy at a Glance: Irish Genealogy Research. The research aid, the inaugural publication in a new "how-to" series, is intended to help those interested in tracing their Irish roots.

In only four pages, which have been laminated for heavy use, the work gives basic instruction on how to begin your research, focusing on key record sources and materials for further reference. It finishes with a summation of record repositories and online sources.

Ancestry Magazine Discontinues Publication

ancestry-magazine.pngAnnouncement from Ancestry Magazine:

For 25 years, Ancestry magazine has been a valuable, timely resource for family history professionals, hobbyists, and novices alike. For a variety of reasons, the time has come for us to discontinue publication. Over the last few years, we have found that with the expanded accessibility of terrific family history content published online at Ancestry.com we can reach a larger and broader audience than the limited distribution of a print publication.

The March/April 2010 issue will be the final issue of Ancestry magazine.

With Ancestry magazine we have loved the opportunity we’ve had to write about the best of what we found in the world of family history. We thank our readers and contributors for sharing our enthusiasm for all things genealogy.

Sincerely,
The Ancestry Magazine Staff

BBC launches family history magazine

The BBC is to launch a magazine and web spin-off of its genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?.

BBC Magazines Bristol will launch the first issue of the glossy magazine with an exclusive interview with newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, who appears in the first episode of the new BBC1 series on Thursday.

The 100-page full-colour magazine, which will hit newsstands on September 25, will be published 13 times a year with an initial print run of 50,000 copies priced at £4.25.

An accompanying website will launch on September 6 to coincide with the start of the new series.

“This magazine market has huge potential for growth and our new title will help move family history away from being an exclusive dusty hobby to a contemporary and accessible interest,” said Andy Benham, the BBC Magazines Bristol publishing director.

Each issue of the magazine will have a covermount of a DVD or CD-Rom with outtakes from the TV series and family history archives.

The website will host new celebrity TV content each week along with a forum, blog, podcast and and social history archive.

UK family history website Ancestry.co.uk will act as the data provider for the BBC website.

The BBC has secured the rights to launch the spin-off magazine and website from Wall to Wall Media, the independent producer of Who Do You Think You Are?.
