Library and Archives Canada is pleased to announce the release of a new version of the Census of Canada, 1881 database. This second general census covered the seven provinces and one territory that were then part of Confederation: British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Northwest Territories.Source & Full Story

Project Overview: "In 1833 Parliament finally abolished slavery in the British Caribbean, Mauritius and the Cape. In place of slavery the negotiated settlement established a system of apprenticeship, tying the newly freed men and women into another form of unfree labour for fixed terms.
On 15 February 2013 the General Director of the State Archives, professor Władysław Stępniak, signed a new agreement for co-operation by and between the Polish State Archives and an international group of genealogists associated by the Jewish Records Indexing – Poland seated in Montreal.
The Ontario Name Index (TONI) reached 1 Million entries last fall. This is a remarkable milestone but there are many more items that could be added with a larger team of indexers preparing the materials.
Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce the release of a new version of the Census of the Northwest Provinces, 1906 database. In 1906, the Canadian government called for a special census of the Prairie Provinces (Manitoba, and the two newly created provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta).
The Archives of Michigan says more than 62,000 Michigan state census records from 1884 and 1894 are now available online to search and print for free.
The government of the Netherlands and Yad Vashem have agreed to digitally archive documents connected to Dutch rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust. The documents will be scanned by Yad Vashem - Israel’s Holocaust commemoration authority - over the coming two years, Yad Vashem deputy spokesperson Yifat Bachrach-Ron told JTA.
An announcement by FamilySearch: "July 2, 2012 (or 1st, depending on your time zone), is going to be an amazing day! We can feel it! It could be the first day that we achieve "5 Million Name" fame. That's right. It might be the day that we index and arbitrate 5 million names (or records) in just 24 hours! No other name transcription project that we know of has ever come close."
Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives has tweaked its search engine to facilitate easier searching of its extensive website. As a result, researchers can now make a search of a specific county from each County's Table of Contents page. It is also possible to search headstones from the Headstone Table of Contents from each county.

A huge project to list all pre-1858 Isle of Wight burials online is being undertaken by volunteers. Members of the Isle of Wight Family History Society are working with staff from the Isle of Wight Record Office to transfer the entire index to the web.
The Canadian Navy was established in 1910. Library and Archives Canada holds different type of records for the Canadian Navy and its members. This research tool provides access to 16,788 references to individuals who served in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Naval Reserve between 1910 and 1918. It also includes some records for those who enlisted between 1919 and 1941. The information was extracted from the Navy Service Ledger Sheets.
Tasmanian Archives Online is the Archives Office of Tasmania’s on-line link to information on its publicly available holdings. Searching the database provides descriptive and contextual information on Tasmanian state and local government records and private records from individuals and organisations held by this Office.
Over 140 cemeteries are currently either controlled or owned by Kerry Local Authorities. Burial registers contain details of burials in local authority cemeteries and are a useful tool in assisting genealogical research.
